'Palm Sunday', locally known as 'Tumkau Ni', was celebrated across Mizoram today amidst prayer and worship services in churches and children taking out processions and singing hymns.
Sunday school students carrying palm leaves took out processions this morning to commemorate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem city on the last Sunday before his crucifixion.
The children were heard shouting 'Hosanna' and singing hymns in the processions, taken out in the villages and urban localities. Prayer services were held in the churches of different Christian denominations.
The day is called Palm Sunday because the people of Jerusalem threw palm leaves on the floor as a greeting when Jesus Christ arrived in Jerusalem.
