Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth's latest 2.0 is set to be released in China in May, the film-maker Lyca Productions said Wednesday.
The film producers, in a press release, said, they have been associated with the Beijing-based production and distribution company HY Media for the release of '2.0'. "The dubbed and subtitled versions are scheduled for release in China in 10,000 theatres with a whopping 56,000 screens, including 47,000 3D screens", the release said.
Touted to be one of the biggest films in terms of production cost, Shankar's directorial 2.0 has Rajinikanth, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and actress Amy Jackson playing the lead, the release said. The music is scored by double Oscar-winner A R Rahman, it said. '2.0' is a sequel to 'Enthiran' released in 2010.
Rajinikanth reprises the role of Dr Vaseegaran/Chitti he had essayed in 'Enthiran,' the release said. Akshay Kumar is the new addition to the franchise and plays the antagonist (Dr Richard). Rajini and Akshay share screen space for the first time. Following the association with HY Media, it has become the widest 3D release of any foreign film in the history of China, it said.
HY Media has collaborations with Hollywood studios including Sony, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Universal and Disney productions. Lyca Productions recognises China as a major film market and looks forward to building a long and fruitful relationship with HY Media, the release added. The Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions of the flick were released worldwide, barring China, on November 29 and was declared a box-office hit.
