One civilian was killed and at least 10 jawan of Border Security Force (BSF) were injured when a bus met with an accident in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on Wednesday evening.
According to the reports, while the troops of 93 battalion of BSF on move from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) duty from Jagiroad in Assam to Silchar via Meghalaya in a convoy of two civil buses, three heavy vehicles and one Bolero car and one bus met with an accident after it fell into a deep gorge.
The bus fell into the gorge about 20 meters from the road of National Highway – 6 at Umtyra under Khliehriat police station in East Jaintia Hills district.
A top official of BSF said that a total of 20 BSF jawan were on board when the bus fell into the gorge. At least 10 jawan and two civilians were injured in the incident and they were rushed to hospital. But one injured civil co-driver had succumbed to his injuries at hospital in Khliehriat. Few injured jawan were shifted to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong for treatment.
