Aiming to develop the bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh, the first ever containerized cargo movement via India-Bangladesh protocol route will be started from West Bengal’s Haldia today.
According to the officials, a vessel named MV Maheshwari will carry a total of 53 containers of petrochemicals, beverage, mineral water and edible oil to Assam from Haldia via Bangladesh
The vessel will sail through National Waterway – 1 (Ganga river), National Waterway – 97 (Sundarbans), Indo-Bangladesh protocol route and National Waterway – 2 (Brahmaputra river).
To reach at Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) terminal at Pandu in Guwahati, the vessel will take 12-15 days.
The official further said that – This is the first containerized cargo movement via Indo-Bangladesh protocol route. It will reduce the travelling cost by using waterways. Two more vessels with 1200 tonne of coal will sail to Assam.
