Amid BJP’s attempt to distance itself from its MP Pragya Thakur over her controversial comment in praise of Nathuram Godse and called him as a “Deshbhakt”, another BJP MLA of Assam has come up to defend Pragya Thakur and said that, Godse was the real “Deshbhakt”.
Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev said that – “I salute Pragya Thakur because she has spoken the truth.”
“There are few people in India who can speak the truth. Mahatma Gandhi had said that, one has to go on his dead body, if the country has to be partition on the basis on religion. But it didn’t happen. We saw the country was partition and two countries were formed West Pakistan and East Pakistan. After that, the on slot was going on the Hindus in West Pakistan and East Pakistan, even Gandhiji could not stop it. There was massacre in Noakhali and the only Hindus were suffered. I am not saying that, Mahatma Gandhi a debatable politician, but what he did for the Hindus was not correct. Therefore any right minded people will naturally protest that. Probably Godse was little aggressive and he was pained to see that lakhs of Hindus had been butchered. The way after the partition also the Indian government was giving a lot of aid to the West Pakistan and East Pakistan and that hampered our economy. Nobody could stop Mahatma Gandhi for doing it,” the Assam BJP MLA said. He further said that – “Probably Godse thought that, the bullet was the only way that could probably stop him (Gandhi) and therefore he assassinated.”
The Assam BJP MLA called Pragya Thakur as a ‘patriot’. “I am also patriot and Godse was also patriot. Bir Lachit Borphukan said, my country is first, then my uncle. Lachit Borphukan had beheaded his own uncle for protecting Assam from the Mughals. When my country comes, it has to be first,” Shiladitya Dev said.
The Assam BJP MLA also claimed that, majority people support Godse if vote will happen.
“Why this country was partition on the basis of religion? Gandhi could stop it. Why Gandhi was biased, Gandhi was only supporting the Muslims why? Muslims got a country out of India. After that also we are feeding them for what good reason. When my country comes, when the protection of my country comes, then somebody has to be killed, even Lachit Borphukan did same,” the Assam BJP MLA said.
On the other hand, reacting over Pragya Thakur’s comment, former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that, Pragya Thakur’s statement reflects the attitude of the other BJP MPs and it also reflected that they hatred Mahatma Gandhi.
“The killer of Mahatma Gandhi has been called as a Deshbhakt. It is not only condemnable, it is most unfortunate that the whole world praises even today for Mahatma Gandhi. I am very surprised that, Prime Minister who made his previous statement that – I am not going to spare her, but till today, inspite of taking any action she has repeatedly said it, repeatedly praising Nathuram Godse as a Deshbhakt,” Tarun Gogoi said.
The former Assam Chief Minister also said that – “They (BJP) are going to confer the Bharat Ratna to the killer of Mahatma Gandhi and it proves that, they are not the followers of Mahatma Gandhi, principle of non-violence.”
