Poachers worships and sacrifices animal before Goddess Maa Kako Mai before killing rhinos in in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park.
This sensational incident came to light after the security forces arrested four rhino poachers in Biswanath district on Tuesday night.
Based on intelligence input, a joint team of forest department and police launched an operation at Rongsali area near Behali in Biswanath district and arrested four poachers, who were involved in several rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga National Park.
The arrested poachers were identified as Pachongthan Guite alias Thangboi, Babul Das, Bimal Bania and Sukhdev Mukhia alias Gulna.
Forest officials and police personnel had recovered several items used in rhino poaching and some foods, cloths in possession from them. The 55-year-old Sukhdev Mukhia revealed that, they worshipped and used to sacrifice animals before Goddess Maa Kako Mai before every rhino poaching mission.
Assam is a home to the largest population of greater-one horned rhinos, with more 2600 rhinos. The Rhino Population Estimation report, 2018 stated that, total number of rhinos in Kaziranga National Park counted 2,413 rhinos.
