Guwahati, Oct 9: More than 700 leaders and members of the United Bodo People Organisation (UBPO joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Guwahati today. UBPO is a frontal group for the Bodos outside the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Welcoming the newly-joined Bodo members, Sonowal said he was glad to be part of this historic joining ceremony of over 700 members of the Bodo community from outside BTR, led by UBPO president Shri Mihiniswar Basumatary’
‘I welcome all members of the United Bodo People's Organisation to the BJP family, Sonowal tweeted.’
Sonowal also appealed to all the Bodo leaders present on the occasion to take a leadership role in generating harmony and brotherhood among various indigenous communities and to join hands in building a strong greater Assamese society.
The joining ceremony was held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, health, finance and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
