Sonowal pays tribute to Pratima Barua Pandey on birth anniversary

Guwahati, Oct 3: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today paid homage to the 'Queen of Goalparia Lokgeet’, Pratima Barua Pandey on her birth anniversary.
Chief Minister Sonowal tweeted on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pratima Barua Pandey adding that the folk icon's beautiful compositions carries the rustic soul of Assam and has popularised Assam's culture and traditions across the globe.
"'Queen of Goalparia Lokgeet’, Pratima Barua Pandey's beautiful compositions carries the rustic soul of Assam and has popularised our culture and traditions across the globe. My deepest respect to the folk icon on her birth anniversary," Sonowal tweeted.
Pratima Barua Pandey was an Indian folk singer belonging to the royal family of Gauripur in Dhubri district, Assam. Pratima Barua Pandey was awarded the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi for her pioneering efforts in popularising Goalpariya lokageet. Pratima Pandey is best known for her Goalpariya songs Hastir Kanya, Mur Mahut Bandhure, Dine Dine Khashiya Paribe, Baro Mashe Tero Ful Fute, Mon Mor Kandere, O Sham kaliyara and others.
