Uncertainty looms over Raas festival in Majuli

 

Guwahati, Oct 30: Doubts persisted as to whether the famous Raas festival will be organised in Majuli this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

 

Recently, the district administration held a meeting with many organising committees in the first river island district of the country to discuss the necessary steps to be taken in light of the pandemic.

 

Children and senior citizens will not be allowed to take part in the raas programmes, as a part of the COVID-19 protocols, the district administration informed the committees. Also, many raas committees have expressed their incapability to arrange the festival.

 

The Majuli Raas festival is one of the major attractions in Assam. The festival every year attracts thousands of domestic as well as nternational tourists.
