Guwahati, Dec 3: In the 9th Biennial Edition of Quotes from the Earth, an environmental film festival, ‘Manas and People (মানাহ আৰু মানুহ)’, was premiered on December 1 at the CD Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Center, New Delhi.
The event was organised by the Toxics Link, and the India International Centre (IIC), with the support of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and Friends Foundation International.
Manas and people tells the story about the eco-system people residing in the fringe of Manas National Park in Assam, which is a World Natural Heritage Site. The film portrays the way of life of the Bodo indigenous ethnic group and their association with the natural landscape.
The film also depicts the strategies and approach of Conservation Livelihood which can able to provide alternative livelihood to forest dependent people along with impact of conservation education.
As part of the screening, Aaranyak's , Jayanta Kumar Sarma, Associate Director and Researcher of Manas and People, and Dr Bibhuti Prasad Lahkar, Senior Scientist participated in an interactive programme with the organisers and audience. The film was also honoured with the Best Environment Film in the non-feature film category in the 68th National Film Awards.
The film has been a multi-agency collaborative programme involving Directorate Manas National Park, Aaranyak, the Forest Department (BTC), Park management, Wildlife Conservation Trust and Panthera supported by the Integrated Tiger and Habitat Conservation Programme, a joint initiative of the IUCN-KfW and is directed by Dip Bhuyan.
