Guwahati, Dec 19: The Congress in Meghalaya today suffered a serious set-back in the run-up to the next Assembly polls in the hill state with one of its senior leaders and a former minister in the state, Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh quitting the party.
In a letter dashed to the President of the Indian National Congress, the senior leader from Meghalaya has tendered resignation from the primary membership of the party as the 'party (Congress) has of late lost its 'sense and direction'.
Ampareen Lyngdoh was also the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state.
Dr Lyngdoh who represents East Shillong Assembly Constituency in Meghalaya , is set to quit as a legislator before she joins the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in a public function to be held at Fire Brigade Ground in the city at 3 pm today.
West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang who was earlier suspended from the Congress party, is also scheduled to join the NPP in the same function along with Ampareen Lyngdoh.
