Guwahati, Dec 20: Assam has bagged the second position among top-performing states in the tourism sector, as per a survey recently conducted by the India Today group.
Surveys conducted by the India Today group is considered among the most reliable ones and the parameters based on which the ranking has been awarded reiterates the fact that the State's tourism sector, which has been accorded the industry status by the government recently, has been able to bounce back despite the hit it had taken during the COVID peak period, according to a Press statement.
Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, expressing his satisfaction at the result of the survey, tweeted: "I am proud to share that Assam has been awarded the 2nd best-performing State in tourism sector in a survey conducted by the India Today group," adding, "its indeed a matter of joy to achieve this feat, despite the sector behind hard-hit during the COVID peak time."
"I hope with the new policies and initiatives of the government aimed at uplift of the tourism sector, we shall be able to attain greater successes in days to come," he further stated. "I thank everyone associated with the tourism industry, ranging from our guests, tour operators, government officials, among others, for being a part of this wonderful journey," the tourism minister added.
The Tourism Minister further remarked that after COVID effect subsided, the government of Assam got into a mission mode to transform Assam into a top tourist destinations in the country and abroad. With this in mind, initiatives have been taken to provide a world-class visitor experience through development of tourist circuits, modernization of infrastructure, while at the same time being mindful to ecological and cultural sensitivities.
This apart, the government has been providing special incentives to stakeholders in the tourism business who were affected by COVID restrictions so as to provide them with the necessary strength to stand on their feet once again, the Tourism Minister added.
The State Cabinet yesterday accorded the industry status to the state's tourism sector. With this, the tourism industry would now be able to enjoy all the perks and benefits available under Assam Investment and Industrial Policy, 2019, the Tourism Minister said.
