Tezpur, January 8: The Guwahati Railway Green Golf Club became the champion of the second edition of the Inter Club Golf Tournament: The BORBHAG Cup playing against Misa Polo club which finished runner-up in the tournament held at GTA, Solmara, Tezpur.
Khanshree Brahma became the ladies' champion this year while Ooma Tewari Tariang finished runner-up.
The winners in various categories were presented with medallions in the post-match prize distribution ceremony graced by chief guest of the valedictory function Kumar Sanjay Krishna, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission and former chief secretary, Govt of Assam. He is also the patron of The Borbhag Cup. The Guest of honour was Major General Sanjay Sajjan Har, chief of staff, 4 Corps, Tezpur.
The tournament, organised by the Borbhag Foundation, saw participation of 96 golfers including 14 professionals.
Other notable winners of the competition were in the Best Gross, 0-30: Mr. Jakir Hussain, in the Best Net 0-30: Johanan Ramnong, Stable ford 0-9: Sanjib Jaiswal, Stable ford 10-17: Col. Lt Col Kuldeep Gahlot, Stable ford 18-24: Col. M Sagir Ali, Pro Gross: Mr. Monuj Bhumiz
Sanjiv Jaiswal won the Closest to the pin award, Amit Suklabaidya won the Straightest drive and Col. R.S. Bhandari won the Longest drive of the tournament.
Instituted in 2021, The BORBHAG Cup is an effort of blending heritage with the modern world, augmenting & promoting existing infrastructure, and building platforms through sports that contribute to a spirit of camaraderie.
The Inter Club Golf Tournament is an effort by a dedicated group of golfers in their continued quest to popularise the game in Northeast India. The Inaugural Tournament, held in 2021 initially envisioned with Clubs from Assam, saw participation from four states of the region. It was held on 3rd January 2021 at Misa Polo Club, Assam when more than 88 golfers from seven teams participated. These were Guwahati Railway, Guwahati Repta, ONGC Golf Club Nazira, Dimapur Club, Tezpur GTA Club, Jorhat Gymkhana Club and Misa Polo Club.
