Guwahati, Feb 10: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal officially granted district status to Bajali in a ceremony held near Pathsala in Barpeta on Wednesday.
The Government of Assam formally declared Bajali, a subdivision of Barpeta district, as the 34th district of Assam on January 12, 2021.
The state government approved the proposal to make Bajali a district on August 10, 2020.
Sonowal also laid the foundation stone of Bajali Milk Processing Unit in Pathsala in the presence of Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that the milk processing unit will be built at the cost of Rs 4.68 crore under CMSGUY which will greatly benefit the dairy farmers and give a boost to realize the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Assam.
The CM also announced Pathsala as a 'Neem Nagari' and ceremonially handed over Neem Seedling to Assam Forest Department brand ambassador, Shri Ananda Khataniar and Bajali DC Shri Bhabani Prasad Sarma.
