Guwahati, Jan 15: Assam Governor Prof.Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended greetings to Army officers, ex-servicemen and their families on the occasion on 73rd Army Day today.
Governor Mukhi remembered the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation and tweeted, ‘ On the occasion of Army Day, paying greetings to the Army personnels and their family members #IndianArmy have been a great example of determination, courage & sacrifice. We are proud to have such a wing in our defense system and their selfless sacrifice they borne for the nation.’
Meanwhile, Sonowal greeted all members Indian Army family and said in a tweet, ‘Greetings to all members of the Indian Army family on the 73rd #ArmyDay. My heartfelt salutations to our valiant soldiers whose indomitable spirit and sacrifice kept the nation safe & secure.’
Also, Assam health and finance Minister Himanta Biswa sarma tweeted, On #ArmyDay2021, I join millions in saluting the spirit & courage of our soldiers. Your grit, determination and dedication keep inspiring us forever. ‘
Army Day is observed on January 15 every year to celebrate the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army - Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa. On January 15 in 1949 the position was taken over from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.
