Guwahati, Jan 21: The Jonbeel Mela which is famous for its barter system began from today near Jagiroad in Assam’s Morigaon district.
The fair is the only one in the northeastern states, where indigenous Assamese communities and neighborhood tribes exchange their products with the native indigenous Assamese people in a barter system
Jonbeel Mela is a three-day annual fair held during the time of Magh Bihu at a place called Dayang Belguri in Jonbeel.
The open fair and cultural functions will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The celebration committee has urged all the visitors and to follow COVID protocol while enjoying the events of the Mela.
