Guwahati, Jan 23: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today unveiled the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary at Jail Road in Shillong.
Speaking on the occasion, Conrad urged every citizen to take inspiration from Netaji and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.
‘Unveiled the statue of Netaji #SubhasChandraBose at Jail Road, Shillong, one of the locations where Netaji visited during his visit to Shillong in 1938. I urge on every citizen to take inspiration from Netaji and dedicate themselves to the service of our great nation, Netaji tweeted.
Conrad also paid floral tributes Netaji on his jayanti at State Central Library in Shillong. ‘ Paid floral tribute to #NetajiSubhashChandraBose on his 125th Jayanti at State Central Library, Shillong. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who was born to advocate Janakinath Bose in Odisha's Cuttack on January 23, 1897 went on to play a key role in the freedom movement of India. Netaji is also known for establishing the Azad Hind Fauj. While there is controversy over Bose's death in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945, the Central government had in an RTI in 2017 confirmed that he had died in the incident.
