Dibrugarh, Jan 22: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered three AK-56 series rifles, three empty mags and Rupees 2,30,000 in Myanmar currency in the jungle area of Zote in Mizoram today
The operation was conducted by the team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai District based on specific information, according to a statement inssued by Assam Rifles.
Three AK-56 series Rifles with three empty mags wrapped in a red cloth were seized by Custom Department, Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
