Guwahati, Feb 19: Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal paid tribute to the great Maratha warrior and king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary today.

Born on February 19, 1630 at Shivneri Fort in Pune, Chhatrapati Shivaji was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan who carved out an enclave from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur that formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji was formally crowned as the Chhatrapati of his realm at Raigad in 1674.
