Guwahati, March 2: To make collection of fine for traffic rules violation easier, Meghalaya Police launched the much-awaited e-Challan Digital Traffic Enforcement Solution today by Lahkmen Rymbui, Home Minister of Meghalaya in the presence of R Chandranathan, Director General of Police (DGP) Meghalaya, officials of the National Information Center (NIC), State Bank of India and senior officials of the police department.
Launching the Home Minister emphasised on the need to sensitise the general public about the digital transformation in enforcing traffic within Shilllong city, and also on the need to impart training to the officials of the Traffic branches so that they will be able to operate the e-Challan system without causing any inconveniences to the public at large.
The e-Challan system will be initially implemented within the jurisdiction of Shillong Traffic Police (STP) and in the near future, other Districts of the State will also be covered under this project.
Meghalaya Police hereby, requests the general public to kindly co-operate with the Traffic officials of STP who will henceforth, be utilising the handheld Point of Sale (PoS) devices for traffic compounding and generating of digital challans.

Guwahati, Feb 25: One construction worker was killed while seven of his co-workers injured when unidentified assailants attacked group of construction workers engaged at St Xavier’s Girls’ Hostel at Umdoid in South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) district on Meghalaya last night.
Meghalaya Police informed tonight that three persons were detained in connection with the crime while further investigation was on to identify all the persons involved in the incident.
A team of police personnel had rushed to the place of occurrence on receipt of the information about attack on construction workers. A case No. 1(2) 2021 u/s 447/450/324/326/302/34 IPC was registered in Mawkyrwat Police Station connection with the incident.

E-Auction begins for extracted Meghalaya coal

Guwahati, Feb 24: E-auction of extracted coal in Meghalaya has commenced according to the Supreme Court order dated July 3, 2019 in Civil Appeal No. 10720 of 2018.
The online auction of extracted coal will be conducted through Meghalaya State Trading Corporation ( MSTC) Limited's portal (www.mstcecommerce.com/coalauctionhome/mcoal/index.jsp), according to a notification issued by Mining and Geology Department of Meghalaya.
Interested buyers can register in the MSTC Ltd portal. Comprehensive plan dated 24th August, 2020and Scheme for Sale of extracted coal in Meghalaya through spot e-auction may be obtained from the website https://megdmg.gov.in. Helpline Numbers: 033-40645207/4-645316.
There has been widespread allegation of unabated illegal transportation of extracted coal from Meghalaya coal dumps through inter-state unholy collusion of various agencies.
