Guwahati, April 2: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Assam, Nitin Khade demanding disqualification of candidature of BJP leader and party candidate from Jagiroad constituency, Pijush Hazarika who has reportedly threatened a reporter of a satelliteTV News Channel here.
In a memorandum signed by the APCC president Ripun Bora and submitted to the CEO, the Congress party has demanded that Pijush Hazarika’s candidature be disqualified from the
present General Assembly Election in Assam and directions should be issued for filing FIR/Complaint against him inter alia under Section 123 of the Representation of People Act, 1951 & Section 171 C of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
The APCC memorandum submitted on behalf of All India Congress Committee informed the CEO, Assam, that “Sri Pijush Hazarika, present MLA and a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is contesting the current Assembly Election under the Jagiroad LAC has found to have threatened a news Reporter namely “Nazrul Islam” of the News Channel “Pratidin Times” with dire consequences for showing a video of his wife, Smt. Aimee Baruah, recorded during her election campaign in Jagiroad in the news channel which has gone viral in the social media during the last few days. “
The APCC memo pointed out that in a viral call (made on April 1, 2021) recording between Pijush Hazarika and Nazrul Islam it is found that Pijush Hazarika using un-parliamentary words threatening Nazrul Islam with dire consequences for showing a video of his wife, Smt. Aimee Baruah, recorded during her election campaign in Jagiroad in the news channel “Pratidin Times”.
The APCC alleged that Pijush Hazarika also warned Nazrul Islam allegedly for doing “Miya Politics” to support Congress and “Aajmal Party” i.e. AIUDF and threatened him that he will spoil Nazrul Islam’s life.
