Guwahati, May 8: Unable to control the unabated COVID 19 surge in East Khasi Hills district including the Shillong city, the Meghalaya Government has decided to extend with the prevailing lockdown by another seven days till May 17.
The decision was taken today in the wake of detection of 375 new cases and occurrence of 11 deaths in East Khasi Hills district alone in last 24 hours.
"The situation is very serious and grim and we are not able to reduce the active cases and we appeal to all citizen to take care of themselves," Deputy Chief Minister Prestone said after holding a review meeting in Shillong today.
It may be mentioned that the Government on May 1 had imposed strict containment measures in East Khasi Hills which was later turned into a lockdown from May 5 till May 10.
