Guwahati, August 16: Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today said unutilised and open government lands in Guwahati city will either be used for creating green areas or for parking lots.
Dedicating an automated multi-level car parking to the people at Panbazar near the premises of Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital here today, Dr Sarma said the new automated multilevel car parking would greatly reduce the problem of car parking for the people going to Pan bazar or Fancy bazar areas.
He, however, sought the cooperation of the people in general and requested them to use new car parking. He also asked Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal to make the automated multilevel car parking -- one at Panbazar and other at Zoo Road near Shraddhanjali Kanan - free for the users till December 2021.
The automated multi-level car parking has the capacity of accommodating 240 cars and was built involving a financial outlay of Rs. 11 crore.
He also said that considering Guwahati as the Gateway to North Eastern states, his government has already formed a vision blue-print for transforming Guwahati into a tier-1 city. He, said that corresponding to the blue-print his government will implement the blue print for creating physical infrastructure.
As a part of this blue print a six-lane elevated road will be laid from Guwahati Club to Noonmati. Moreover, a ring road connecting the Airport to Sualkuchi via Palasbari over the Brahmaputra connecting Sipajhar via Baihata and linking Narengi via Kuruwa over the Brahmaputra would be built. He also said in six divisions of GMC areas, solid waste management projects will be constructed. Moreover, plans are also on the anvil for the Brahmaputra River Front project the work of which will start very soon.
In the same programme, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma also unveiled a new portal to ensure welfare, wellbeing and safety to GMC workers. On this occasion, he presented five SIMs to five GMC workers to mark the inauguration of the project which will help 2500 workers.
It may be noted that the portal is an intelligent SIM based mobile solution which would adequately be used to track the GMC workers while on duty during any exigency.
