One injured as robbers fire upon city residents

Guwahati, Oct 5: One person was injured when an armed gang of robbers fired upon a local person while decamping after committing robbery at a residence at Sarda Path, Dhirenpara in the city this afternoon.

Assam Police’s Special DGP, G P Singh said a 6-member gang of robbers coming in a SUV committed robbery at the residence of Gautom Pal. However, locals tried to capture the robbers when they tried to flee. In the process, one local person identified at Liton Mazumdar was injured on being fired upon a robber.

Police said the robbers managed to flee leaving behind their SUV which was confiscated by the police later and driver was arrested by the police.

The injured Liton Mazumdar who was first admitted in Hayat Hospital, was shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and Assam government has announced that it will bear the cost treatment of Liton Mazumdar.

City Police’s Joint Commissioner, Partha Sarothi Mahanta said that they had got some leads in the investigation and hoped to arrest all the dacoits soon.
