Guwahati, Dec 17: An elephant calf died on the spot after being hit by New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express at Bhelaguri in Nakachari under Mariani range of Upper Assam’s Jorhat district in the wee hours today, according to preliminary investigation by forest personne.
“A male calf, aged around six to seven months, was knocked down by a train while it was trying to cross over the tracks around 3.30 am. It died on the spot,” an official statement said.
The accident occurred around 3 kilometres away from the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.
Post-mortem has been conducted and other formalities are being carried out.
