Meghalaya hopeful of partial solution to boundary dispute before 50th Statehood Day

Guwahati, Jan 12: Meghalaya government hopes that he vexed boundary disputes with Assam will get resolved, at least partially, by January 21, the 50th Statehood Day of the hill state.
This was stated by Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong after attending the fourth Chief Minister level discussion on inter-state boundary disputes held between Conrad Sangma and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam State Guest House at Koinadhara here this afternoon.
Senior minister and officials from both states attended the meeting that focused on resolving the disputes in at least six areas out of the total 12 such areas before January 15.
Briefing media persons, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that CMs of both the states had set a target of January 15 to resolve the dispute in six out of 12 areas of dispute.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya said that they were hopeful of a solution before Meghalaya celebrates its 50th Statehood Day on January 21 next.
He, however,  said that there would be a final round of chief minister-level talks within a week before the chief ministers meet the Union home minister.
“Thereafter, hopefully, before January 21, 2022, a final agreement would be made known to the people of both the states,” Tynsong. 
The Meghalaya chief minister further said that the detailed final reports would be submitted by the respective regional committees within three days before the chief ministers meet again.
The six “less complicated” areas of differences are Tarabari, Gizang, Hahim, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pilangkata and Ratacherra – falling under West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, East Jaintia Hills districts in Meghalaya and Cachar, Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts in Assam.
