Guwahati, May 16: Assam’s Special Director of Police (ADGP), Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi has been appointed as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya.
The appointment of Bishnoi who is a 1991 batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre has not come as surprise since he was the front runner to head the Meghalaya Police.
As per seniority, though Special DGP of Assam, Mukesh Agarwal (1989 batch) should have been considered for the appointment as the DGP but the state government is free to appoint anyone from the three empanelled in the list that was forwarded by the UPSC in February 9, 2022. The UPSC had also shortlisted KV Singh Deo, who is a 1989 batch IPS officer.
As per the notification of Meghalaya government issued by Secretary to Home (Police) department, Cyril V. Diengdoh, Governor of Meghalaya , Satya Pal Malik is please to appoint Bishnoi as the DGP in the apex scale pay (level 17) in the pay matrix with effect from the date of taking over charge and until further orders.
