Guwahati, Sep 29: India Tourism, Guwahati in Association with WICCI Assam Hospitality and Tourism Council organized a walk in the city covering two historic point, the Kasturba Gandhi Ashram and Gandhi Mandap today.
The event had participants from tourism department, tourism and hospitality fraternity and prominent dignitaries from Assam.
The Kasturba Gandhi Ashram - Gandhi Mandap walk was curated to re-visit two significant landmarks in the heart of the city.
Kasturba Gandhi Ashram, run by the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Assam branch, was inaugurated by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi in January, 1946. Further, 2.4 kms away, is the Gandhi Mandap, a Museum in memory of Gandhi ji located on the top of Sarania Hill here.
During the walk one witnesses the inspiring continuation of Gandhian philosophy at the Ashram, and proceeds to the Gandhi Mandap highlighting Gandhi ji's visits to Assam. En-route the walk tells the incredible stories of the role of played by Assamese freedom fighters and martyrs in India's freedom movement. The amalgamation of the historical trail with glimpses of the modern Guwahati city is a visual delight!
This route has been chosen to walk-the-path, with narration of momentous and inspiring tales engraved in history.
