Guwahati, Nov 21: Assam’s Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurated Sahitya Munishi Upaban (biodiversity Park) at Lalacherra in Hailakandi district of Barak Valley today.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Suklabaidya said the bio diversity park has different medicinal plants. The Minister said Assam is rich in bio diversity and the government is giving added thrust to it by setting up biodiversity parks across the state.
"The park will attract people and inspire them to conserve biodiversity.” he added.
Suklabaidya underlined the need to make the new generation aware about the importance of protecting the environment in the wake of problems like climate change and global warming.
He said, "The state government has been taking a slew of steps to preserve and protect biodiversity as the bio diversity parks set up in the State are part of it."
This biodiversity park is one such 24 bio diversity parks being set up by the Forest Department across 24 districts under CAMPA scheme. Six parks have already been set up. Each park covering an area of 2 to 3 hectare will be designed to preserve local medicinal plants and other varieties of flora.
