Guwahati, Nov 26: Hundreds of people thronged the streets of the city on Thurdsay to catch a final glimpse of the former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who died of post COVID 19 complications on Monday. He was 84.
The final journey of the veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi began from his official residence in Guwahati today. The last rites of the former Assam Chief Minister will be held at Nabagraha crematorium today.
Gogoi is survived by wife Dolly Gogoi, son Gaurav Gogoi, MP and daughter, Chandrima Gogoi.
Tarun Gogoi served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories. Gogoi was the longest serving Chief Minister of Assam.
Gogoi also served six terms as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and had also served as a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Food and Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
