Guwahati, Dec 1: Nagaland’s most popular Hornbill Festival starts today. The annual festival in Nagaland starts from December 1 and lasts till December 10. This year the festival will be organised virtually owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today wished the people of the state on the occasion of the festival, saying, "I wish the citizens of #Nagaland, well-wishers and friends all around the world, a happy virtual #HornbillFestival2020. When the world reopens, Nagaland will be ready with a tourism narrative in tune with a post #COVID scenario and to welcome you to our beautiful land."
The government of Nagaland organises the Hornbill Festival to promote cultural heritage of the state. The festival is held at Naga Heritage Village at Kisama about 12 km from Kohima while the music festival and rock concert is held near Dimapur.
The festival is named after horbilll which is displayed in folklore in most of the state's tribes. The festival highlights include fashion show, handloom and handicraft exhibition and sale, Naga games and sports, musical concerts etc.
