Guwahati, Dec 25: Unlike previous years, Christmas celebrations in Guwahati would be a low key affair this year due to the global pandemic. However, the Guwahati city looked beautiful with the streets, shops and houses decorated with fairy lights and other decorative items.
The churches in the city have made elaborate plans to celebrate the festival while maintaining the COVID protocols. The visit of the people in the churches has been minimized in order to prevent any further spread of COVID 19.
The city churches have decided to conduct the main mass but no outsiders will be allowed for the mass due to the pandemic. No carol singing or community feast will be held this year and all programs on Christmas will be held online.
Meanwhile, Assam Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has extended his wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Christmas. ‘ My warm greetings and best wishes to my fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of #Christmas Let us all rededicate ourselves to the teachings of Lord Jesus for strengthening universal brotherhood and harmonious co-existence,’ Mukhi tweeted.
