Economic activities to continue amid fight against COVID-19

Guwahati, 9 July: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the deputy commissioners of all districts to facilitate economic activities to continue along with the simultaneous fight against the pandemic.
He also directed them to take steps for skill mapping of the youths who have returned from outside the state so that they could be provided adequate employment opportunities.
Sonowal instructed engagement of some of those returnees in the implementation of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission while also providing self-employment opportunities through the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The chief minister held a video conference with the deputy commissioners, superintendents of Police and joint directors of health services of all districts on Thursday morning and took stock of the COVID-19 scenario, flood and erosion along with status of implementation of various developmental schemes.
Sonowal directed the district authorities to ensure non-interruption in the implementation of developmental schemes at these trying times.
He asked district administration officials to consult with the respective public representatives before taking any measure to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also directed the joint directors of health services of all the districts to ensure that the patients suffering from other ailments, apart from COVID-19, get the required medical facilities on time.
