Guwahati, 5 July: Assam health department has so far conducted over 4.55 lakh tests for COVID-19 and aspires to complete five lakh tests in new few days.
NITI Aayog has put Assam in fourth place from top among the states in respect of number of tests conducted per million populations after Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
“We will complete 5 lakh tests in next few days. Our faculties, scientists and lab technicians are working 24 hours putting their life at risk. Hope someday people will recognise this selfless dedication of my team,” tweeted Assam Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“The high tests per million being undertaken now in Delhi must be emulated by other states. This is critical. States must be judged on testing. We can succeed against #Covid-19 only with 3T strategy of testing, tracing & treating. This is the moment to act, and to act fast,” tweeted Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog.
Meanwhile, Assam has started administering the anti-viral drug, Remdesivir on critical COVID-19 patients. “So far, we have administered the antiviral drug on four patients. We believe that the medicine will work on critical patients and keep them off ventilation,” Sarma said.
