Guwahati, July 20: In response to the appeal of Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a resident of Fancy Bazar area of the city donated his plasma at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Plasma Bank.
Mukesh Singh from Fancy Bazar donated his plasma to the GMCH's newly fromed Assam Plasma Bank.
Declaring him as Assam's Plasma Hero, Himanta tweeted, "Our salute to Shri Mukesh Singh from Fancy Bazar, Guwahati who donated his plasma to GMCH PlasmaBank. Your benevolence will inspire many to come forward and donate their plasma."
Earlier, SI, Pan Bazar Police Station and a Goalpara resident donated their plasma to the plasma bank.
The plasma bank has been formed to facilitate plasma therapy for gravely ill coronavirus patients in the state. Patients who have recovered from symptomatic COVID-19 infection and tested negative 28 days before can donate their plasma to the plasma bank.
Meanwhile, as many as 1018 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam in the last 24 hours, including 577 in Guwahati city alone.
“1018 new COVID19 ve+ patients reported in Assam today, with 577 cases from Guwahati City alone. Important to follow containment measures,” tweeted Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
With the detection of the new cases, total cases stand at 23,999. There are at present 7,916 active cases while 16,023 patients have recovered from the disease. The state has recorded 57 Covid-related deaths so far.
