Sonowal pays homage to Natasurjya Phani Sarma on his Smriti Diwas

Guwahati, July 31: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today paid homage to the cultural icon playwright and director, Natasurjya Phani Sarma on his Smriti Diwas.
Sonowal took to Twitter to pay homage to Phani Sarma and said the contribution of the cultural icon towards art and cinema in Assam is invaluable. "An actor par excellence, playwright and director, Natasurjya Phani Sarma’s sterling contribution towards art & cinema in Assam is invaluable. My homage to the cultural icon on his Smriti Diwas," Sonowal tweeted.
Phani Sarma was one of Assam's greatest theatre actors, playwrights, film actors and directors. He appeared in the first Assamese film "Joymati" in 1935. He acted in and directed "Siraj" in 1948 and "Pioli Phukan" in 1955.
