Guwahati, 13 August: The Leader of the Opposition in Assam Assembly and the Congress legislator from Nazira Assembly Constituency, Debabrata Saikia today condemned the act of some persons accosting noted singer of the state Zubeen Garg last night by using abusive, derogatory & obscene language.
“I demand Assam Police to take strong action against such perverted minds. Shame on such persons,” the Congress leader tweeted.
Meanwhile, according to the first information report (FIR) lodged by Zubeen at Dispur police station, six youths who were on a Suzuki Ciaz vehicle bearing registration number, AS-01BY-0675, came out of the car (with beer bottles in hand) and started abusing the singer “using unparliamentarily language” near the Ganesh Mandir point and the road linking Ganeshguri with Kahilipara in the city.
The miscreants allegedly “defamed” Zubeen and reportedly fled the scene after confronting the two personal security officers (provided by the government) who were with the singer for his safety.
Assam’s senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today condemned the attempt to attack the singer while assuring that the culprits would be brought to book.
