Guwahati, Sept 12: Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal paid rich tributes to pioneer of Mobile Theatre in Assam, Abhinayacharjya Brajanath Sarma on his Smriti Diwas today.
Sonowal said that Sarma’s contribution as a playwright and his role in introducing co-acting to the drama movement in Assam is invaluable. ‘The pioneer of Mobile Theatre in Assam, Abhinayacharjya Brajanath Sarma's contribution as a playwright and his role in introducing co-acting to the drama movement is invaluable. My solemn tributes to the legend on his Smriti Diwas,’ Sonwal tweeted.
Brajanath Sarma was born on 15 September 1894 at Sila village in Bajali area of modern Barpeta district of Assam. Sarma was a playwright, actor and a pioneer of mobile theater of Assam. Sarma formed a drama group locally called ‘jatra party’ bearing the name - 'Sila Kalika Opera Party' together with his brother Krishnakanta and Uday Sarma. His works include Basaspati,Shanti, Kalapahad, Ranjit Singh, Barjita, Manomati, Patita, Karuna and Urbashi .Sarma died of respiratory disease in 1960 in Guwahati.
